FAQs
What is mastering?
In simple terms, mastering is the last creative audio process before release. The goal is always to serve the music and give it what it needs, whether that is to correct mix balance issues or enhance particular sonic characteristics within the music, tools such as eq, compression or limiting are great problem solvers for this. Audio restoration is also used to great effect in mastering to eliminate unwanted noise, distortion and checking for any potential errors within the audio.
Why use a professional mastering service?
Professional mastering has several advantages over the “do it yourself” approach. We provide the “ears behind the gear”. With over 20 years and thousands of tracks mastered, my knowledge and experience allows me to selects from a wide palate of tools, to fine tune, restore, and bring your project to its fullest potential. To date I know of no process that can bring you a finished and consistent product like a true mastering facility with the proper engineer at the controls.
How much does it cost?
We discuss your budget and needs and tailor a cost to fit. We generally prefer to give a fixed priced quote rather than an hourly rate, this way we can accurately provide a service that has no hidden costs or surprises. We are a passionate and service driven company.
How do I contact you?
Fill in the contact form at the bottom of the website.
How long will it take you to master my tracks?
An album of 10-14 tracks will take a day, singles are roughly an hour, it may take longer if you wish to revise your mix, or you need any mastering revisions. The whole turnaround for mastering is generally within 24 hours.
Can you do masters for vinyl?
Yes, but we do not cut laquers. We can recommend you cutting engineers and pressing plants.
Do I need to provide any information when I send you my tracks?
Once you're booked in for a session I will email you a requirements list for sending your pre-master finished mixes. The list includes correct spelling of band name, album, track names and order etc.
Can I be present whilst you work on my tracks?
Not at the moment, however it is something I am working on being able to accommodate in the near future.
